Topographic Normalization in ERDAS Image

When I using atmospheric correction with ATCOR tool in ERDAS image, it was not always answer and give me nice result of corrected imaginary (I used to Landsat satellite imaginary and ASTER GDEM 30m), especially for mountainous area.
Back then, my lecture ever told me, that to predicting potential burn area using Landsat satellite imaginary, we have to correcting the image first with atmospheric or radiometric correction. Minnaert Topographic Normalization is the one of many method and tools to execute this correction.
This simple one does not spend many time to processing ( I need less than 1 minute J) , and more over we only need 3 files / data as below:
1.     Satellite imaginary
2.     Metadata of satellite imaginary ( value of Solar / Sun Azimuth and Elevation)
3.     Elevation imaginary

  1. Thank you for this useful tutorial. I am trying to perform topographic normalization with Landsat 5 images of the Cochabamba Mountain Range (Bolivia) and a 30-m DEM in GRID format. But I get an error "the file EMDL_001152e cannot be deleted"
    Any idea how to solve that? Help would be highly appreciated....

  2. Hallo Sebastien,
    I'm so sorry, I have tried it again, but it was going okay.
    Did you mean it is ASTER GDEM 30m?
    I think you should change your grid format into erdas image (img) format in this case. (and make it sure have the same coordinate system with your Landsat 5)
    anw, the elevation (dem) have to pre processing first, particularly about 0 data (fill).

  3. mengenai data yang berupa 0 data sebaiknya apa yang dilakukan mas arif? dan proses pre prosesing untuk dem apa saja yang dilakukan? karena pre prosesing yang saya lakukan hanya mozaiking dem (data dem saya terdiri dari beberapa gambar) dan merubah sistem koordinat saja.

  4. bang mau nanya, bisa ga kalau kedua metode (atcor dan topographic normalization) dilakukan? baik atcor dulu atau topo normalization dulu.
    atau salah satu saja?

    Tapi jika mau pakai keduanya, maka Atcor yg dipakai adalah Atcor 2 di..
    setelah itu hasilnya di proses topographic normalization

  6. oke makasi bang,
    satu lagi bang (agak oot), sy lagi coba fill dem sinks dengan modeler yang sy download dr link diatas, tapi kok hasilnya sy identify lagi masih ada sinknya (sama kaya sebelum di fill).
    apa ada pengaturan lg di modeler tsb?
    teknik lain fill dem yang recomended apa bang?

  7. coba fill sink di ArcGIS aja di,..
    di Hydrology tools sepertiya,

    atau bisa juga lewat ArcHydro.

  8. sy coba gunakan modeler ini tapi ada notif begini "Invalid combination of object types or sizes", knpa ya bang?
    input srtm dem dan landsat 8 format .img..
